Default Old people over 70 shouldn't drive.

Well I was just driving on the highway going about 130kmh (which is around 80mph) and I was in the passing lane. Then I see a car come up behind me really fast, so I do the right thing and go to the middle lane, then I look to my left expecting some suped up car with a young guy in it, but it was an OLD lady with glasses in her brown toyota tercel. I said to myself "Wtf? A short-looking old lady speeding in her crappy car?". She was going at least 160-170kmh (100-110mph) which is really fast for a highway since the limit here is 100kmh (60mph).

It's either old people drive too fast, too slow, swirve a lot, or don't use their damn flashers when turning.

There should be a law where people over 70 can't drive (or 75 actually, 70 isn't THAT old).

I know I speed sometimes myself, but I'm better than the average driver. I've been to special driving schools which costed over 8 grand Canadian dollars (I'm 18 btw). But I don't think some old granny can handle all that speed lol. It surprised me.

I'd say anyone below 20 shouldn't be allowed to drive since they don't know how to drive

here in the UK you have to re-take your test when you get to a certain age, I suppose that would weed out most of the weak/dangerous drivers.

no one should be allowed to drive
there a small danger that u might crash.

but more on the point.
do u think that an over 70 can't control a car at 30 mph?
in this case granny A was driving way to fast, she could have been a 20 year old and she could have totalled that car.
it would have mad little diffrence then.

So she was breaking the law a little faster than you were, big deal.

Incidently, saying you're a better driver and what others shouldn't do, because you went to some expensive driving lessons? Didn't they teach you not to break the law?

You may have paid to go to a driving class but she has been driving for over 50 years. Don't you think she can has learned to drive yet?

As someone who drives for a living - I work for UPS - I can honestly say that people 70 and over should have to take their driver's test each and every year. I have seen so many frightening and dumb-assed things on a daily basis that I am just stunned a lot of the time. I'm sure that seniors know how to drive it's just that their reaction time/reflexes are so slowed with age, and that's what makes them poor drivers.

I mean, you can see it in their eyes, the indecision in their eyes as you approach. You can almost hear the wheels in their brains turning as they mull over their options, should I turn now? Is the UPS man gonna turn? OH, his signal light is on, I guess that means he's gonna turn now . . . and on and on it goes. ONe of the basic tenets of defensive driving is to make eye contact with other drives who might pose a hazzard. Look into the eyes of a senior coming the other way. You'll see what I mean.

On the other hand, I don't think teens should be driving either because they are just as horrid as seniors but I think that's mainly due to short attention spans and all the distractions a new ride entails, you know, over-powered subs, screaming girls in the backseat, etc.

Knowing this, it's no wonder I make my girlfriend drive almost all the time.

End rant.

i agree with OP

recently in Montreal (i live here) an old man was stoped a red light, and as soon as it turned green he drove into a bus stop with 10 people inside of it. he said, he got confused in the pedals.... go figure now if he is insane or just too old to sit in a car

Anyways!

Two days ago, a car flipped over on some street >_> <_<

I don't know the details, but I'm going to blame uh..Maria the Princess because he's from Montreal. That's right. Canadians from the other side are causing car crashes here on the west side.

Ok, I learned the other day young people can be bad drivers too... Some lady, must have been around 25ish just backs out of her driveway full speed without looking, luckly I stoped and she was like "haha sorry, didn't see you there" as she drove past... I so totally should have taken a hit and sued.
